How to transcribe a Google Drive video
The recording is already in Drive. Copy the share link instead of downloading and re uploading it.
Half the recordings people need transcribed already sit in Google Drive: a meeting export, a course module, an interview a colleague dropped in a shared folder. Downloading a two gigabyte file just to upload it again is a waste of an afternoon. Drop accepts the Drive link directly, resolves the file behind it, handles the download confirmation page Drive throws at large files, and streams the media into transcription without touching your machine.
Steps
Step 1
Set the sharing to anyone with the link
In Drive, open Share, then General access, and choose Anyone with the link with Viewer access. Restricted files cannot be read by anything outside your account.
Step 2
Copy the link
Use Copy link in the same dialog. The standard drive.google.com file link is what you want, and the file ID inside it is what gets used.
Step 3
Paste it into Drop
Put the link in the input and press Drop it. Large files trigger a Drive confirmation step, which is handled for you rather than failing.
Step 4
Read the output
Full transcript, core ideas, remember list and quotes, exactly as with any other source.

Questions
- Why does my Drive link fail?
- In nearly every case the file is still Restricted. Switch it to Anyone with the link, Viewer, then try again.
- Do I have to make the file public forever?
- No. Link sharing only needs to be on while the job runs. Switch it back to Restricted afterwards.
- Does a shared folder link work?
- No, point at the individual file. Open the file in Drive first, then copy its link.
- Can it read a Google Meet recording?
- Yes. Meet recordings land in Drive as normal video files and behave like any other Drive video.
