How to get an Instagram Reels transcript

Copy the share link from the Reel. Paste it. Read what was actually said.

Reels move fast and say more than they look like they do. A ninety second Reel can carry a whole framework, and by the time you have watched it twice the algorithm has already moved you three videos on. Drop pulls the audio out of any public Reel or video post and writes it down, then tells you what the argument underneath it was. It works the same on feed videos, on Reels, and on the video half of a carousel post.

Steps

  1. Step 1

    Grab the share link

    Tap the paper plane icon under the Reel, then Copy link. On desktop use the three dot menu and Copy link. Do not use the browser address bar while logged in, since that link can carry session junk.

  2. Step 2

    Paste it into Drop

    Put the link in the input box and press Drop it. Drop cleans the tracking parameters off the end for you.

  3. Step 3

    Wait for the speech to text

    Instagram serves no usable caption track for most Reels, so the audio is transcribed. Typical Reels finish in under a minute.

  4. Step 4

    Turn it into your own post

    Send the sharpest line to the card studio, or generate a caption and a carousel outline from the ideas.

Does it work on Reels or only on normal posts?
Both. Reels, feed videos and IGTV style long videos all run on the same path.
Why does my link fail?
Almost always because the account is private or the post was deleted. Use a share link from a public account, or upload the video file directly.
Can I transcribe a Story?
Stories expire and are not publicly addressable, so no. Save the clip and upload the file instead.
Is the on screen text included?
No. Drop transcribes what was spoken. On screen captions painted into the frame are part of the picture, not the audio.
